ORANGYPORANGY HAS A NEW HOME IN MADISON WI AND IT’S CALLED ZIP-DANG, LOCATED AT 2606 MONROE ST. WE QUIETLY OPENED THE SHOP THIS WEEK, WE PLAN TO HAVE A GRAND OPENING IN JULY.

HOURS ARE EXPERIMENTAL AT THIS POINT BUT SO FAR ARE APPROXIMATELY 12PM – AT LEAST 7PM MONDAY – FRIDAY, AFTER THE FARMERS MARKET SATURDAYS ABOUT 2PM-7PM, CLOSED SUNDAY.

STOP IN AND SEE THE PLACE, MIKE IS BUILDING OUR COOL DISPLAYS, WE’RE ADDING NEW GOODS DAILY AND I’M SEWING SKIRTS EVERY CHANCE I GET. IN ADDITION TO ORANGYPORANGY HANDMADE LADYWARE, ZIP-DANG WILL ALSO FEATURE VINTAGE GOODS INCLUDING DRESSES, MENS BUTTON SHIRTS, NEW OLD STOCK EYEWARE, FURNITURE, COLLECTIBLES & ACCESSORIES. AND WE’RE BUILDING AN INVENTORY OF GOODS MADE BY TALENTED INDIE ARTISTS THAT WE’VE MET ALL OVER THE U.S.

poly, poly everywhere. I have an enormus stack of fantastic poly fabrics all cut out and waiting to be skirts. They should be online early next week. . . and they are good.

I love making poly skirts. From start to finish they are one of the most enjoyable pieces I sew. From the pursuit of fantastical fabrics to pairing and positioning just the right combination of texture and eye popping color, they make me happy. I hope they brighten your day as well, check the shop soon for their arrival.

thanks again to Kim Colletta, bassist for JAWBOX, for contacting me about a skirt to wear for her TV gig. And thanks to her rocker friend Melissa Quinley for the word of mouth that sent Kim to me. Kim Coletta, Bassist and co-founder of the band Jawbox, contacted me recently about my opal skirts and said she wanted to wear one for her upcoming appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon! The band split in 1997 but they have a record being re-mastered and re-released this month so they played a one time only reunion gig on the show. I sent Kim 3 custom skirts to choose from and she wore TWO of them, so cool she did a costume change, one for the live show appearance and the other for the pre-show set. Kim rocked the opal skirts with a pair of tall grey boots and a black top – my favorite way to wear them too. THANKS KIM for supporting handmade ladyware – click below to see her in action

HEY CHICAGO! it’s the renegade holiday show, you all know it’s big, it’s super great and it’s a can’t miss handmade shopping event. For the second year in a row orangyporangy will be set up in the far-far-away gym in the back of the building so don’t give up looking for us, we’re booth 91! come out and support your handmade craftsmen and women and get lots of holiday shopping done, see you there 11am-7pm saturday and sunday. a small batch of our new happy pants are finally finished. These are my new favorite thing to make out of left over fabrics. Each pair is totally one of a kind and totally fun to wear. They’re a wide-leg lounge pant with an elasticized drawstring waist. That elastic in the drawstring really makes a BIG difference in comfort.

Sizing for these pants will run a little smaller than our opal skirts because well, they’re pants, so you may be in a different size range for pants than skirts. This is my first batch of pants so I will most likey be expanding the size range a bit in the future.

For now I have a lovely little collection of loungables that make fantastic holiday gifts.

One of the many benefits of running a cottage industry for me has been the ability to take time out for my health problems when necessary and recently my cluster headache attacks unfortunately cut our road trip out west short but i’m so glad to be home. I have suffered from cluster headache attacks since I was 15yrs old so they’ve always been a challenge to live with, lasting anywhere from 4months to 1year per cycle. This cycle of headaches started a few months ago and suddenly became unbearable on our travels through the desert, and cluster attackes are very difficult to control with medication. So sadly we didn’t make it to San francisco this year but we hope to next year, we know it’s a great show in a fabulous city.

* * Mike & I will be updating the website in the next few weeks (while I take it easy) we will get some of our new designs online – we have lots of new stuff – so watch for that!

Bonnie Bassler, way cool scientist & orangyporangy enthusiast has been spotted once again at a high profile event in one of our opal skirts! Bonnie believes her orangyporangy skirts are part of the total message that science is fun and magical and creative and that scientists are cool, enthusiastic people.

“I love my new whirly-girl skirt. I wore it first to give out awards at the TriBeca film festival in NYC. I got a ton of compliments and “you don’t look like a scientist” comments.”
